WHY HAVE YOU TAKEN OUT THE FINANCIAL ELEMENT AND THE DEADLINES?After several years of running TLC, we've struggled to make it work financially so that all the people involved get paid fairly for the amount of time and effort they put into running the challenges. We have failed to secure funding, and relied on donations, and despite the fact that some people have been incredibly generous, we did not receive enough to make this a viable project, and were forced to either stop altogether, or simplify it. We really hope this works, and we receive enough donations to cover the costs for this simplified version.
-
HOW DOES IT WORK?The concept is simple. Every day throughout the duration of the challenge, you will receive a new brief to inspire you to write. Then, all you need to do is write something. At 10pm UK time, and every evening throughout the challenge, you will receive a brief, to help you along the way and get your creative juices flowing. The challenge is to write every day, and if you do that, you've completed the challenge.
-
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE?As much time as you can give it, be that ten minutes on your commute each day or eight-hour overnight sessions.
-
WHAT SHOULD I WRITE?Anything you like. Our writer briefs are useful as starting points but are not rules to follow. This is about committing to writing something each day of the challenge. Do that and everyone is happy.
-
HOW LONG SHOULD MY SUBMISSIONS BE?We don't care as long as you consider the work original and complete. It could be one page or a hundred. The choice is yours.
-
WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE THE BRIEF?You don't have to respond to the brief, so if you don't like it - write about something else.
-
DO I HAVE TO BE IN THE UK AND/OR WRITE IN ENGLISH?Not at all. Our writer-briefs know no borders. Do note that all timings and deadlines are UK time, and it’s your responsibility to adapt it to your time zone.
-
CAN I SEE THE BRIEFS IN ADVANCE?No. Seeing the daily briefs as they are published is the only way to be involved. Trust us. It's fun to wait.
-
WHAT IF I WRITE BADLY?We don’t care. In fact, we encourage you to write badly. If you’ve written something new and complete, then you're good. Well done.
-
WILL ANYBODY READ MY SUBMISSIONS?Very unlikely.
-
WHAT HAPPENS TO MY SUBMISSION AFTER I SUBMIT IT?Nothing. We log the title and at the end of the month we delete all the submissions.
-
WHO OWNS COPYRIGHT OF SUBMITTED WORK?You do and you always will. We are not publishers and will not share your work without your say so or for profit. In fact, we delete everything once the challenge is over.
-
CAN I REGISTER A FRIEND?Yes, you can register several people, but each person will need a seperate email address for registration.
-
CAN I COPY/PASTE THE BRIEFS FOR MY BLOG, OR FORWARD TO MY FRIENDS/STUDENTS?"We're so happy that you're posting your writing on a blog. If you want the brief for context, we would ask that instead of copying/pasting them, you paraphrase them.
